Controversy Surrounds Vedanta's Bid in Jaypee Resolution
April 17, 2026
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi refutes claims that Vedanta was the highest bidder in Jaypee insolvency resolution. Arguing for the Resolution Professional, he highlights false narratives in media and emphasizes procedural transparency. Vedanta's post-deadline bid adjustments are called into question, risking the integrity of the insolvency process.
In a heated legal exchange before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the Resolution Professional (RP) of Jaypee Associates, contested the portrayal of Vedanta as the highest bidder in the firm's insolvency resolution process.
Singhvi categorically dismissed the claims that have surfaced in media and public circles, suggesting Vedanta's supposed initial status as the top bidder was never factually grounded. He noted that the communication sent to all bidders, including Vedanta, was procedural and did not confer any definitive bidder status.
Further discrediting Vedanta's claims, Singhvi argued that the subsequent bidding changes by Vedanta were non-compliant, submitted post-deadline, and violated fair process norms. As the Committee of Creditors moved forward with original plans, the focus remains on maintaining the integrity of the process.
