As June 2026 begins, customers planning to visit bank branches should take note of several upcoming holidays that will affect banking operations across different parts of India. Both public and private sector banks, including major public and private lenders such as SBI and HDFC Bank, will observe closures on various dates in line with the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) official holiday calendar.
While banking services will not be available at branches on designated holidays, customers can continue using digital channels for most routine transactions. Since holiday schedules vary from state to state, checking the applicable dates in advance can help avoid inconvenience and halt some of the important work.
RBI Holiday List For June 2026
15 June: Banks to remain shut in Aizawl to celebrate the founding of the Young Mizo Association (YMA). Banks will also be closed in Bhubaneswar on this day due to the occasion of Raja Sankranti.
25 June: Banks will remain shut in Vijayawada to celebrate Muharram.
26 June: Bank will remain closed in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kanpur Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Srinagar, to celebrate Muharram.
29 June: Banks will be closed in Shimla to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti.
30 June: Banks to remain shut in Aizawl to celebrate Remna Ni.
Weekend Closures Also Affect Banking Services
Apart from festival-related holidays, banks will continue to follow the RBI-mandated weekly closure schedule.
Under existing regulations, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain closed on every second and fourth Saturday of the month, along with all Sundays.
In June 2026, branch services will not be available on June 7, 14, 21 and 28, which fall on Sundays. Additionally, June 13 (second Saturday) and June 27 (fourth Saturday) will also be non-working days for banks across the country.
Standard banking hours on working days remain from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, though timings may vary slightly between branches.
Digital Banking Services Continue During Holidays
Even when physical branches are closed, customers can continue to access a wide range of banking facilities through online and mobile platforms.
Digital payment systems such as UPI operate around the clock, allowing users to transfer money, receive payments and carry out everyday transactions without interruption. Mobile banking applications and internet banking portals also remain functional during holidays.
However, customers should be aware that some services may occasionally experience temporary interruptions during scheduled maintenance periods, which banks generally communicate in advance.
Electronic fund transfers through NEFT and RTGS can also be initiated online. In addition, services related to debit cards, credit cards and ATM cards continue to be available through digital channels.
Many banks also offer online access to account maintenance requests, standing instruction registrations and locker-related applications, enabling customers to complete essential tasks without visiting a branch.
Plan Ahead Before Visiting A Branch
Given the number of regional and nationwide closures scheduled throughout June, customers are advised to verify local holiday dates before planning branch visits. While digital banking ensures uninterrupted access to most financial services, transactions requiring physical documentation or in-person assistance may need to be scheduled around the holiday calendar.
