Banks in Karnataka, including branches of SBI, HDFC Bank and other lenders in Bengaluru, will remain closed today, Monday, 20 April 2026, in view of Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya, as per the Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar.

Bank holidays in India differ from state to state because local festivals, cultural events and regional observances are taken into account. Apart from these, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with all Sundays.

Basava Jayanti is mainly observed in Karnataka and marks the birth anniversary of Basavanna, the 12th-century philosopher, poet and social reformer associated with the Lingayat tradition. He is remembered for advocating equality and opposing caste discrimination. Basavanna also founded the Anubhava Mantapa, a spiritual and intellectual forum for saints and scholars.
